I intend to provide some insight and ( hopefully) an entertaining perspective of her first year experience at RMIT studying Disability Studies.
I plan to talk about my experience of preparing for university including the completion of the VCE, my Gap year experience, Kick Start Transition Programme and identification and training in adaptive technology.
I want to share the differences and make comparisons of the theoretical preparation and the practical application of the first year at University; such as requesting text in an alternative format before the start of semester and not recieving the info until mid semester.
I hope to discuss the importance of self advocacy,knowledge and confidence, along with the recognition and making the request for technological support well in advance of the start of semester.
